The Greene County varsity football team powered its way through another opponent, thrashing Clarinda 41-0 Sept. 24 in Clarinda. The Rams went up 35-0 in the first half which allowed the team to substitute freely during the continuous clock in the second half. Greene County is 4-1 on the season.
Richard Daugherty and the kickoff return team gave the Rams an exciting start by returning the opening kick 88 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Bryce Stalder had touchdown passes in the first half to Jackson Morton of 35 yards, Daugherty for 71, and Morton again, this time for 11, all in the first 15-1/2 minutes of playing time.
Lamar Anders intercepted a pass at the Clarinda two-yard line and went into the end zone with 28 seconds left before the break. A two-point conversion pass from Stalder to Morton put the Rams up 35-0. Patrick Daugherty rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter on a three yard run.
Greene County had a potent offense of 351 yards, 201 in the air and 150 on the ground. The Ram defense held the Cardinals to only 124 yards, 81 on the ground and 43 through the air.
Stalder completed 12 passes out of 16 attempts. Morton was his favorite target for seven aerials for 136 yards and two TDs. Jesse Miller caught two passes for 18 yards. Single receptions went to Max Riley, five yards; R Daugherty, one for 71 yards, touchdown, and Brenner Gallagher, 25 yards.
Nathan Black and Anders worked the ground game. Black bullied his way nine times for 17 yards. Anders carried eight times for 37 yards. Stalder scrambled five times for 22 yards. Morton lost six yards on two carries. R Daugherty gained eight yards on a carry. P Daugherty ran twice for five yards and a score.
Anders had a big defensive game with seven solo and 9.5 total tackles. Morton brought down four solo and 5.5 tackles. Riley had two solo, five tackles. Bradyn Smith grabbed three solo, five tackles.
Also contributing to the defense were: P Daugherty, one solo, 3.5 tackles; Nathan Black and Gabe Ebersole, two solo, three tackles; Michael Rumley, two solo, 2.5 tackles; Blake Hamman, two tackles; Gavin Scheuermann and Miller, one tackle; Gallagher and R Daugherty, 1.5 tackles; Stalder and Camden Strennen, one-half tackle.
Black punted twice for 70 yards.
It’s homecoming week for Greene County. Their opponent Friday night is Red Oak (2-3, 1-1). Kick off is at 7 pm.
